Griffle is an Outcast who'd been taken prisoner by Tyball. The Avatar freed him from Tyball's prison on the seventh level of the Abyss in Ultima Underworld I. Griffle told the Avatar how Tyball had forced them to mine for a strange mineral—which would be identified as Orb Rock—and how they'd broken through the floor during their mining activities, reaching the level below.
