He is cocky, egotistical and even narcissistic, though his confidence was wounded sorely at the betrayal of his first love, Madalena, whom he practically worships. Depressed, he lives half-heartedly with only his squire, Sid, to take care of him until Princess Isabella of Valencia entices him out of hiding by telling him Madalena is being abused by her husband and regrets choosing money and power over love.
