Penny Summers was an American woman who, after surviving the Race Invasion of Tosev 3, went on to become a formidable ginger smuggler in the 1950s and '60s in several Race Colonies on Tosev 3. She maintained a rocky relationship with former US Army cavalry officer Rance Auerbach. After that, she was never the same. When the cavalrymen took her to Lamar, Colorado, she spent her time in her crowded apartment building, alone with a Bible, despite efforts to coerce her out of her depression by her friend, Rachel Hines.
