Maria Almeida was a Portuguese nightclub singer based out of the Golden Escudo, an exclusive establishment in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The club's owner, Manuel de Souza, kept the company of Almeida and as such anyone who touched her was liable to lose their fingers.
