Kerry Wood is an ex-major league baseball player. He was the Rookie of the Year in 1998, setting the hobby on fire with a 20 strikeout game during that rookie year. After returning from an early injury, he was still a dominate pitcher and was expected to make a powerful 1-2 punch at the top of the Cubs rotation along with Mark Prior. However injuries (arguably due to abuse) led to Wood losing his effectiveness. He ended up leaving the starting rotation and was a very effective closer for several teams before finally retiring as a Cub in 2012.
