Old Sopenal Straecy Ruess (born -56) is a former Consul of Roam. A second generation Straequian citizen, with both fathers elected as Sentinel, he was the first (and the second) Provincial Consul. Old Sopenal is an examplar of the Straequian warrior tradition, serving for six years as an Officer during the Crylaltian War. He was elected as Sentinel in the first year of Machyal's Tyranny, and proved to be the docile, apolitical magistrate that the tyrant required to push through his reforms with little legal resistance. He was then elected as a Marshal and returned to Crylalt, though he found himself frustrated by Proud Machyal Sarevir-Machyal's lack of deference to his constitutional authority.
