Mark Messier was a pro hockey player with the Edmonton Oilers and later the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League through the 1980s and `90's. His jersey number 11 has been retired up into the rafters at Madison Square Garden. Though he never actually appeared in Everybody Loves Raymond, his name was mentioned by Debra in the episode "Captain Nemo".
