Before the Great Cataclysm, the swamp was no more than a sand pit. When Voya Nui split off from the Southern Continent, the sea water from the surface flowed in as a waterfall, forming a swamp. When the cord connecting Voya Nui and Mahri Nui was destroyed, Voya Nui fell back into place and the Staff of Artakha filled the hole Voya Nui created, cutting off the water from Karda Nui. The swamp was destroyed after the Energy Storms ravaged Karda Nui once again.
