On the 30th of March, a low pressure area formed near the Senkaku Islands of Japan. The low pressure area quickly moved eastwards and then northwards, organizing as it went. At midnight on April 1, the system developed into Tropical Depression 06W. After about eighteen hours, the system was given the name 'Ayase' as it transitioned into a tropical storm. Beginning a northeastwards curve, the system began intensification, becoming a Category 3 Typhoon in just a few days. However, increasing wind shear knocked the system down a peg, slowly de-intensifying the system.
