Plimmerton School in the suburb of Plimmerton, in the northern sector of Porirua, is probably the only school of that name in the world. It is one of Porirua's oldest. Currently at the end of the imaginatively-named "School Road" (which was not a legal road for the first few decades of the school's existence), the school has the noisy North Island Main Trunk Railway to the east, bush-covered slopes to the north and west, and fairly new housing adjoining the road-end at the south.
