Giving a raspberry, also known as blowing a raspberry, strawberry, rasp, razz, or making a bronx cheer, is making a noise to signify derision. It is made by placing the tongue between the lips and blowing to produce a sound similar to flatulence. It got it's name from rhyming slang, in the phrase "raspberry tart rhymes with fart". It's use was first recorded in 1890.
