Fort Jackson is a military fort in Alabama. It was built on the orders of General Andrew Jackson near the site of the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1814, where a French for had stood nearly a century before. When Jackson was away, his subordinates officially christened it "Fort Jackson". It was here that the Treaty of Fort Jackson, the treaty that took some 20 million acres of land from both sides of the Creek War and opened up to white settlement.
