Moncrief was the commander of an army ordered to help protect the Grey Tower Mountains, under the command of the Vandros der LaMut. Nearing seventy years old in the last half of the Riftwar, he had grey hair down to his shoulders and deep set eyes. He was one of the Duke of Bas-Tyra's barons. Moncrief was killed during an Tsurani assualt on his camp in the seventh winter of the Riftwar.
