Pseudoephredrine is a pharmaceutical used as a decongestant and stimulant. It's salts are contained in many over-the-counter medications to treat colds. Although it is effective in treating nasal symptoms, it can cause heightened blood pressure, sweating, insomnia and anxiety. Moreover, because it can easily be transformed to amphetamines by a chemical process, it's sale is often closely restricted at the retail level. Because of its side effects, it should not be used by people with uncontrolled blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism or those with heart problems.
