Metabolic syndrome is a possible complication of diabetes. Metabolic syndrome is a term that describe a number of medical disorders increasing one's risk of cardiovascular diseases (that is, the diseases affecting heart and/or blood vessels) and diabetes. The term "metabolic syndrome" came into currency during the late 1950s, but it is in common use since 1970s. The term is used to indicate various risk factors of diabetes which were known from at least from 1920s. Mayo clinic defines metabolic syndrome in these words: "Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that occur together, increasing your risk for heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
