Sir John Browne (died 1 January 1497/1498) was Master of the Worshipful Company of Mercers in 1450 and Lord Mayor of London 1480. The Browne family came from Oakham, Rutland. In 1470 Browne was elected an alderman of Faringdon Within Ward in 1470 and was chosen as Lord Mayor in 1480. In 1488 he became alderman for Cheap Ward. He was the father of William Browne, Lord Mayor 1507 and uncle of William Browne Lord Mayor 1513. He was buried in the church of St Mary Magdalen, Wood Street, in the City of London.
