an Entity in Data Space: dbkwik.org

A gauth, sometimes referred to as a lesser beholder, was a four-foot (1.42 m) wide beholderkin that fed on magic as well as flesh. They had six eyestalks, one of which was used to drain magic from items, along with four feeding tendrils that sprouted from the top of its body. The most obvious feature of a gauth was that its central eye, which stunned and affected the viewer's mind, was surrounded by a ridge of flesh and many small eyes used for sight. A gauth was a rapacious and tyrannical creature that sought to exact tribute from anything weaker than itself and often attacked adventurers merely to acquire their wealth.
