Monsanto's House of the Future was the second [Monsanto] sponsored attraction at Disneyland, after the Hall of Chemistry. Opened on June 12, 1957, the attraction was a free walk-through exhibit located outside the entrance to Tomorrowland. It stood on a 256-square-foot raised platform surrounded by contemporary themed gardens and a winding pool that collectively covered about a quarter of an acre. The pool doubled as both a decorative water feature as well as being a component of the house's cooling system. The house itself was 1,280-square-feet, and shaped like a cross or plus-sign.
