The Cosmos-Spanning Consortium or CSPANC was the greatest sorcerous achievement since the megamagics that had swept two Nipponese cities off the map at the end of the Second Great Slaughter. It had far more peaceful uses than sorceries of mass destruction as it mystically linked all the crystals in the world together forming a communications network. Each year, during the Yule Bird Count competition between Sunset Grove and Fernwood, birders from both communities used the CSPANC to report birds that they had seen.
