The USS Nelson (NCC-1843) was a Federation starship in service in the late 23rd century. The Nelson, described as a "close-cordon patrol cruiser", was encountered by a covert, cloaked Starfleet Intelligence scout ship attempting to cross the border into Rihannsu (Romulan) space on a mission to insert Federation Agent Terise LoBrutto into her new identity. The Nelson was observed to defend the Federation border quite vigorously. (TOS novel: The Romulan Way) Named for Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), British Vice-Admiral and possibly the most famous British sailor of all time.
