The main character and primary protagonist of the series. Matsuo is the lieutenant of the Third Division and is stationed in the state of Michigan within the United States to monitor strange spiritual occurrences that have been steadily increasing in severity. The captain of the Seventh Division and friend to Matsuo, she is the first Shinigami we meet in the series besides Matsuo. The lieutenant of the Seventh Division under Captain Haruhi Michiyo, Nakamura Ryuuhei joins the series just after his own commander.
