Cliff was a manic depressive and a patient in the Psychiatric Unit of Weatherfield General at the same time that Claire Peacock had been sectioned in September 2006. Claire and Cliff were playing a game of Ludo in the day room when her husband Ashley and father-in-law Fred Elliott came for a visit. After Claire introduced him to the two men, Cliff suggested that they should continue with the game later on.
