The Analysis Service, formally known as the Second Directorate, was one of the child agencies within the Imperial State Security Committee, in charge of analyzing information obtained by the Imperial Intelligence Service, the Third Directorate, and from other sources across the galaxy. Every major world of the Empire had a State Security Office on it, and each one was staffed by a number of agents from each of the five directorates, including Analysis.
