Jade Pendants were designed by Asahina Shugenja during the early years of Emperor Toturi I's reign, to protect samurai from the spreading Taint due to rampant maho. A pendant was a round chip of jade with designs on the front and holy symbols decorating the back, tied around the wearer's neck with a cord of silk. It protected the wearer as a normal sliver of jade, except that its protective power was never expended. If the wielder knowingly practicesd maho or willingly used an item that would cause him to gain Taint, the pendant was immediately destroyed and its effect was negated. Also known as Token of Jade, their popularity rose again after the Rain of Blood, when the Empire lived in fear of the Bloodspeaker cult.
