The Kingdom of Kalmoor was founded by mercenaries in the middle of written history. It hosted a population that had survived many wars in the past and would rather live outside normal society in a secluded desert city than take part in the petty politics of most other kingdoms. Many had a criminal background or had been slaves to nobles in the freelands. The ruler of Kalmoor would change every few years as different groups in the kingdom gained power over the other in succession. In the midst of the chaos the people starved and had a insecure place to live. Only merchants found the place hospitable as a strict neutrality policy took place within the borders of Kalmoor, that made it less likely for violent outbreaks to occur between visitors to the desert jewel of the north.
