The Insurgency in Eastern Ukraine is a conflict that occurred from 2014 to 2015 in eastern Ukraine, as a result of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution and the Euromaidan protests. The new Yatsenyuk Government established after the overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovych imposed measures which were unfavourable to the Ukrainians living in the east of the country, and they declared their own independent states (Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics). The two states were unrecognised until November 2014, when Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) recognized the Republic of Novorossiya (the union state of Lugansk and Donetsk, which the Kharkiv People's Republic later joined).
