Irriz was a renegade of the Malazan army. He had been a corporal in the 3rd company, Ashok Regiment. During the Whirlwind, he joined the rebellion and assumed command of an outfit of rebels as captain. He had a particular interest in taking his vengeance on Captain Kindly of the 2nd company Ashok Regiment. Irriz had dark eyes and, although describing himself as a captain, was wearing a Malazan lieutenant's uniform. The crest of the Ashok regiment was visible on his helmet.
