When Becky McDonald suddenly doubled-up with stomach pains in April 2010, husband Steve took her to Weatherfield General where consultant Mr Richards examined her and sent her for tests. These resulted in several pieces of bad news: Becky had been pregnant but had miscarried early in the term. Moreover, the tests had shown that she was highly unlikely to be able to carry a baby to full term. An angry Becky asked about IVF or other treatment but was told that it didn't matter - she would be unable to have a child. She rejected his advice and, with some mild abuse, she stormed out of Mr Richards' office with Steve in tow.
