The King's Indian Defense (ECO code: E61 and following) is an opening characterized by the following moves, irrespective of order: d4, c4, and Nc3 by White and ... g6, ... Nf6, and ... Bg7 by Black. The move ... e6 is also typical in the early stages and may precede any of those moves. The opening is hypermodern in the sense that Black contests the center with pieces rather than pawns, and the g7 fianchetto attacks along the long diagonal to contest White's central pawns. tleft = 1
