The 2003 EA Sports 500 was a Winston Cup Series (now Sprint Cup) event held at Talladega Superspeedway on September 28, 2003. Michael Waltrip won his final career event to this point, holding off teammate Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Waltrip then demonsrated his new roof escape hatch by jumping out of the hatch and waving to the fans in celebration. Meanwhile, Matt Kenseth had trouble for seemingly the first time all year, but still held a 354-point championship lead on Kevin Harvick (7th).
