The YSR was open to all beings who lived on worlds aligned with the Republic, with the organization accepting new Scouts who were around ten standard years of age. Throughout their time with the YSR, young people could earn badges which signified their completion of various learning courses, which went toward their advancement in rank, of which there were eight. Those who remained with the Scouts until adulthood tended to gravitate toward careers within the Republic Military or various other government agencies.
