Valiant II was authorized with the registry NCC-1731 by the Starfleet appropriation of stardate 4444 to be named as a replacement for the USS Valiant (NCC-1709). The Valiant, commissioned with registry NCC-1718, entered service on reference stardate 2/0010. Valiant was refit to Constitution mark III specifications on stardate 2/0312, and again to Enterprise-subclass specifications on stardate 2/1802.
