Recipe books or scrolls are often found by many means, treasure chests or killing "Things", "Things" are corruption mobs, they are capable of killing you in 3 hits even with a full lumite armor set, recipe books unlock recipes that you can show off or use for things, the scrolls work the same, sometimes there are occasions where you find two recipe books/scrolls with the same recipe.
