The Kobayashi Maru was a Class 3 neutronic fuel carrier that was part of the Kobayashi Maru scenario at Starfleet Academy. In the scenario the Maru was captained by Kojiro Vance and had struck a gravitic mine and drifted into the Klingon Neutral Zone. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan) According to the Ship Recognition Manual, Volume 4: Starships of the Original Series Era the Maru was a fictional vessel.
