Deborah Hattlen is the mother of Thomas Whitman and can trace her ancestry all the way back to Arthur Eld's time from Burtock Hattlen. She was from a family of gunslinger's who all belived she had married beneath her when she married Manfred Whitman. However she never listened to them and was very happy in her marriage. She believed the use of guns to be abhorrent and lived in constant fear of her family returning to her in coffins and she utterly detested the violence of the coming of age ceremony of a gunslinger. Many rumours said she felt this way as she had loved a gunslinger who had been sent west in disgrace.
