Roy Atwell (May 2, 1878 - February 6, 1962) was an American radio comedian, broadway performer and composer. He was chosen to voice Doc, the pompous, self-appointed leader of the seven dwarfs in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, because he had already incorporated stuttering and wordplay into his radio performances. This had been a result of one of Atwell's first performances on Broadway, in which he nervously stumbled over his line, which the audience laughed at. Worried he was going to get fired, Atwell was told by the director to repeat that line on the next night, and from then on tripping over his lines became his trademark.
