The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is a U.S. federal law enforcement agency tasked with investigating federal offenses involving the unlawful use, manufacture, and possession of firearms and explosives, acts of arson and bombings, and illegal trafficking of alcohol and tobacco products. It was also caught under a scandal in the 2010s known as Operation Fast and Furious where several guns were supplied to drug cartels and other criminals, which also resulted in the careers of several agents associated with ATF being damaged beyond repair.
