The first Gaia Film Festival was announced June 14 2007, and Gaians had just over two weeks to make a film to be broadcast later in the Gaia Cinemas. Gaians could choose to make a masterpiece of cinematic expression or flaunt their lack of talent by choosing to enter their movie in one of two categories: My Movie is Awesome! or My Movie Sucks. Gaia staff would choose the winners for each category and make them available for public viewing. At first, only citizens of the USA were eligible to enter, but it was announced June 20 that it was now possible for anyone to enter.
