Kalmar Sverre's son was a crofter in Skatval the Brisk's tribe in Halogaland on the banks of the Lygra Fjord. When Tzoumas led a mission to preach the word of Phos to the Halogai, Kalmar was one of those open to conversion. When Skatval ordered the execution of Kveldulf, the Haloga priest of Phos, Kalmar was ready to defend Kveldulf until Kveldulf ordered him to stand down. Even after Kveldulf was killed, Kalmar was not entirely sure that he didn't believe in the god Kveldulf had preached of, but backed down from confrontation with Skatval.
