Maran Bry was a Cardassian poet who was highly critical of the Occupation of Bajor. One of Bry's poems, Paean to Kunderah, contrasted a victory in battle against the Klingons to the Occupation. Another work by Bry was Solar Winds. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time) When Thrax Sa'kat and Kutel Esad met in the Hall of Records to conduct an information exchange, the quotation by Thrax of one of Bry's poems was required by Esad as code.
