[Source] The Medal of Liberty was a medal given to starfighter pilots of the Imperial Navy for outstanding bravery and courage. It was awarded to pilots who participated in the first campaign to hunt down Grand Admiral Zaarin. Though the campaign failed to capture or destroy the traitor, it managed to push his forces back and liberate a sector of space from his control (hence the name of the medal). The Imperial Navy also secured the Vorknkx Project.
