Douglas Wilmer was the actor who played Sherlock Holmes in the 1965 TV series and the 1975 parody film The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother. Wilmer also played a cranky old man – credited as Diogenes Gent – who is in the Diogenes Club in the 2010 BBC adaptation, Sherlock. Wilmer died on 31 March 2016.
