On 28 December 1499, Pope Alexander VI gave mass in the Sistine Chapel, but was attacked by the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who had crossed the Passetto di Borgo, thereby avoiding the district itself. While the Pope survived the attack, Ezio and his uncle, Mario Auditore, fled towards the Tiber after Ezio's encounter with Minerva, a member of the First Civilization, in the Vatican Vault. The Assassin returned again in August of 1503, when he stole the Apple of Eden from St. Peter's Square and escaped.
