The BR2 Lightning 505 is essentially a sports car that can be used for track racing and long distance rallying. Designed as a mobile test bed for a new generation of lightweight super-efficient gas turbine engines developed by Brains, the BR2 was the second prototype based on a Universal Motor Company Lightning 505 high-performance racing shell to be engineered in International Rescue's workshop after the BR1 exploded during rolling road trials. Initial road tests demonstrated the car's superior speed and handling. With Alan Tracy at the wheel, the BR2 was driven to victory at Parola Sands, demonstrating the power of Brains' new engine. The sleek lines of the car have been aerodynamically developed to provide low air resistance at high speeds.
