Inheritor is the twenty-seventh short story published in the Horus Heresy Series that was not originally part of an anthology novel. Inheritor was first published as an e-book and is now also included in the Eye of Terra anthology. Inheritor is a prequel to the video game Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, and tells the origins of Eliphas the Inheritor, the leader of the Forces of Chaos in the game, who appears later in Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising and Dawn of War II - Retribution.
