A Fire axe is a type of axe used by firefighters. Its purpose is to rescue trapped people by cutting through obstacles. Firewoman Cooper carried a fire axe when she was called to an office block in London's inner city to deal with a "fire". In reality, the smoke was caused by an anomaly that led to the Precambrian era, though the building became infested with Precambrian Worms. Cooper used the axe to defend herself from several worms, before giving it to Nick Cutter when he went to rescue several trapped executives. He later dropped the axe when a worm attacked him and it was lost in the fog (Episode 2.2).
