The 52nd Infantry Division (52. Infanterie-Division) served in southern Poland, close to Katowice and were primarily a division for training with a lot of young cadets. The officials were especially selected for training young boys. Some of those came from Flak in Leuna after ceasing the bombing in that area, due to totally destruction of the facilities there. The division was engaged in a battle with Soviet Army during December 1944, that in truth was a controlled retreat to Czechoslovakia in the city of Opava. In Opava all the boys younger than 18 years were sent to Lenggries.
