Occasionally, a movie turns out good. Often, a movie turns out bad. Sometimes, a movie turns out good, but not quite good enough. That's where the concept of a Recut comes in. Kinds of Recuts: * Director's Cut: The cut of the film the director 'approves of'. If the director didn't like the theatrical cut because they weren't allowed to cut the film the way they wanted, they may put scenes back in, take scenes out, fiddle with timing, change audio or various other things. This kind of Director's Cut is very common on DVD. Occasionally, the theatrical cut is the director's cut, because the director's perfectly happy with the theatrical cut. * Extended Cut: Identical to the Director's Cut, except not necessarily by the director, and not necessarily the director's original vision.
