The Gendarmes are highly effective units that easily demolish light infantry and artillery, and do reasonably decent against Heavy Infantry units due to their high area of effect, high base attack, and incredible hit points. The army is not very versatile though, and will easily lose to ranged cavalry and heavy infantry units, so it should be shipped with support from Light Infantry such as the Arquebusier.
