Born as Kelly Christopher Amos, his father is veteran actor John Amos and his sister Shannon Amos is working as writer and producer. In 1995 he wrote, produced and directed the short film Syphon Gun for which he won the Best of the Festival award at the Ann Arbor Film Festival and the Short Filmmaking Award – Honorable Mention at the Sundance Film Festival. In 1996 he received a Grammy Award nomination in the category Best Music Video – Long Form for "Where'd You Hide the Body". Amos also worked as assistant to the director on the science fiction film Demlition Man (1994) and one year later he earned his Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts School of Film and Video.
